Swedish massage is the most popular massage in the US and Canada. It involves the use of hands, forearms and elbows to manipulate the muscles, tendons and ligaments. Active or passive movement of the joints may also be part of the massage. Swedish massage has relaxing and therapeutic effects, and can be done as light or as deep as the clients wishes.
What can I expect?
Thai yoga massage is a treatment performed on the floor, on a foam mat. The client is fully clothed in loose comfortable clothing such as jogging pants and a T-shirt. During the massage the practitioner takes the client through various passive movements or stretches while applying pressure to those areas while the muscles are in advantageous positions for releasing tension.
You don't have to be flexible nor a yogi to get a Thai Yoga massage. One of the main benefits of Thai Massage is the stretching that is incorporated in the massage allowing the recipients to feel more loose and limber. Feeling stretched out is one of the benefits, not a requirement. Another very fortunate result that comes from the movements and stretches in a Thai Yoga massage is the ease and efficiency with which it breaks down layers of tension. When the movements, the stretches and the pressure are all combined, the effect of each becomes magnified.
Whether you are using massage to keep in top shape, unwinding the stresses of life, or using it as a start to a healthier lifestyle, you will find that Thai Yoga massage enhances your well-being on all levels.
Hot Stone Massage
If you like heat, heating pads or hot baths, you would love hot stone massage!
What is a hot stone massage?
Hot stone massage is a treatment, by which the massage therapist, in addition to using their hands, uses very smooth basalt stones that have been heated (in water) in order to perform the treatment.
How are the stones heated?
About an hour before the massage, the therapist begins to heat the stones either by using a slow cooker, or by placing them on a hot plate in a Pyrex dish filled with water.
How is the treatment performed?
During the treatment, the stones are removed from the hot water as needed, dried off and coated with oil. The therapist then runs the hot stone along the muscle with as much or as little pressure as is necessary in order to attain the desired effect.
What are some of the benefits of a hot stone massage treatment?
Because the stones are hot, it helps to increase circulation. It is very beneficial when treating stubborn muscles that just won't let go. It is also an extremely relaxing treatment (even more so than a regular massage) making it great for someone who not only would like to relax, but NEEDS to relax.
Is the treatment covered by extended health benefits?
If performed by an RMT (registered massage therapist), the treatment would be covered by insurance plans, just as a regular massage would be.
What is the cost of a hot stone massage treatment?
The cost is only $15.00 over and above the cost of a regular massage therapy treatment.
Massage is a safe and effective tool in dealing with some of the uncomfortable symptoms associated with pregnancy. Many pregnant women experience back, neck and shoulder pain, sciatic pain, carpal tunnel symptoms as well as general fatigue from carrying around all that extra weight. Massage often makes pregnant women feel more comfortable and relaxed by helping to decrease or by even eliminating many of these symptoms.
You may be wondering how you could possibly be comfortable getting a massage when you can't even lie on your stomach. Don't fret, we have special pregnancy cushions to accommodate a woman in ANY stage of pregnancy. We simply place the cushions on our existing massage table, this enables pregnant women to lie on their stomachs while receiving their massage treatment. These cushions are completely safe and comfortable. If however you are not comfortable with the idea of lying on your stomach or whether you're physically uncomfortable on the cushions, we would simply change the positioning so that you would be lying on your side, which would allow us to access your back and the back of your legs.
