- Jaw pain and dysfunction can have a variety of symptoms including face or tooth pain, jaw clicking or popping, jaw locking, headaches, migraines, ear pain, and more.
- With TMJ massage, we can help target some of the underlying factors that contribute to any of the above symptoms. Our massage therapists Alyssa Rotman and Miranda Whalen are pleased to offer new TMJ-focused treatments.

Focused TMJ treatments will include an assessment of the jaw and the surrounding structures, treatment of the extra-oral muscles (outside of the mouth), treatment of the intra-oral muscles (muscles inside of the mouth), and specialized homecare.
Each treatment plan will start with an initial assessment that will take around 10-15 minutes with the rest being hands-on treatment. The subsequent follow-up appointments will be majority hands-on.

What to expect from a TMJ massage
- At Elgin Massage Therapy Clinic, Acupuncture, and Spa in Ottawa, ON, The therapist will perform an initial assessment to help inform their approach to treatment. The therapist will then treat the external muscles of the face, jaw, and neck. Finally, with a gloved hand, the therapist will carefully massage the internal muscles of the mouth and jaw. Treatment will be followed by homecare to extend the benefits of the massage.

Is the treatment covered by extended health benefits?
If performed by an RMT (registered massage therapist), the treatment would be covered by insurance plans just as a regular massage would be.

The cost is only $5.00 over and above the cost of a regular massage therapy treatment.
